talk to your local surveyor. He will enjoy telling you, and you will
make a useful contact.
He should talk about trig points which are accurately surveyed and
clearly marked points (above mean sea level). You refer your local
measurements to one of these trig points. I am told some GPS systems
have this built in, but for accurate elevation work, a transmitter is
located at a trig point and used to modify the GPS signal.
