Not in the way you're thinking. The two 16 mm pieces would be about 1/4
as strong as the 32 mm piece. It might be possible to make the walls from
the 16mm plate and stiffen the sides according to Appendix 13 of the ASME
Code. Fab the stiffeners out of the other 16mm plates, maybe. Whether you
can do this practicably is another story, but it can be done.
