RE: Consideration of spring can weight

what is holding up the pipes. Steel somewhere. The hangers rods are not bearing down on the piping which is holding itself up somehow, it is all supported off steel or other support structure.

Draw a little assembly and where the forces are going. This is called a free body diagram and determines the simple mechanics. You will see that your thinking has the forces upside down.

THe purpose of the algorithm is to find the load transferred through these devices to the steel. The load is transferred to the support steel/structure not TO the piping. it affects the loading of the steel and how big the hangers and rods have to be to TRANSFER that load.(actually the amount of added self weight would be neglible even if you tried to add it.. )technically you could add it to the steel support load. I dont beleive the program does this probably because it would only represent a few % of the total weight.

However I wonder why you wouldnt post such a question on the COADE Caesar website. They collect big fees to provide such tech support.

hope this helps.

Hello,

Is it necessary to specify concentrated loads in Ceasar II at the spring hanger nodes, to consider spring can, rod and clamp weights on the piping.

What if we dont consider that, would it affect the spring type selected by the software and the load distribution at other restraints.

Regards
Paritosh
