Re: Slide Rule
You touched something soft beneath my "left breast pocket" with your message on
Slide rules. You see, I went through college with a borrowed overused slide
rule, scales hardly visible from long use. I tried to buy it after I graduated
as a memento of how I labored with it but the owner refused. I did not have much
use for it then as pocket calculators were already around (it was earlier than
1972, I think) but I still bought one (perhaps to convince myself that I was
already an engineer, hard to believable at that time).
I still keep the thing, intact through the years, visiting it occasionally,
especially at times when I wanted to curse my computer when it hangs.
I say, it is still a good piece of material worth keeping, an inspiration, if I
may call it that.
Thank you for keeping the subject alive.
Best regards.

Found it: Mozilla Thunderbird (
http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ ) allows you to leave
messages on your server after downloading them. Tools > Account Settings

It also has some nice junk email filtering abilities.

Subject: Planning software
Dear All,
I am interested in obtaining a demo version of planning software : Primavera (P 3 e/c) on which I can get some hands on experience. I tried to search it through google but didn't get the solution.
Request if anybody from this group can help me out in this....
regards,
rakesh

Subject: OT: Slide Rule Still Rules
"It was the only technological tool widely and continuously used for over three centuries. For math and science geeks it was a badge of honor, nestled neatly into a plastic pocket protector along with a handful of stubby pencils.
And then, one dark day in 1972, with the advent of the pocket calculator, the slide rule went the way of the abacus. Why fiddle around with the arcane log scales and indexes required to use a slide rule when an inexpensive calculator required nothing more of its owner than the ability to push a few buttons?
But while a bright yellow plastic Pickett slide rule may no longer peek out of every engineer's shirt pocket, these pre-silicon marvels haven't disappeared. There are web pages, international organizations and entire businesses devoted to the collection and care of slide rules."
