absolutely Steve.... engineering stuff sure beats digging a ditch!

I bet everyone else knows what you are talking about when you mention that "cold chill".... there is no satisfaction greater for me than to have thought up a solution, sized it up, drew it up, and seen it built....then work!....with everyone else watching..... and there is no greater respect than to say.....that guy (gal) is a terrific engineer......

always sounds like you have great fun with what you do.....

   Hi Jack

the breadth of the stuff I do is just the result of living in a small    country; specialist help is not always available, so we are often forced    to make do with what we have.

Have noticed some of the guys seem a bit disenchanted with the direction    of engineering.
Even though the moneys not so brilliant, I reckon theres still a lot of    fun to be had - especially if you can get out of the office and to the    place where things are actually being built (and broken). There is a lot    of satisfaction seing something you have dreamed up or worked on    actually being put to use. Plus that cold chill of self-doubt (have I    screwed it up?) during testing and commissioning is very pleasant when    it finally goes away.

   Cheers

   Steve
