Good day Paul,
As some strainers have a flushing valve (automatic or manual) you may have to consider increasing the velocity so as to make sure of a successful scouring of any loose material within the body. It would be likely that the frequency of flushing would need to be shortened due to the horizontal orientation and the difficulty of encouraging the crud to the point of discharge.
