Pipe conforms to pipe size specifications (such as ANSI B36.10 for
carbon steel). Nominal pipe sizes have a fixed OD for various wall
thicknesses. Tube is pretty much everything else. Pipe wall are oddball
decimal numbers while tube wall thicknesses are typically the preferred
thicknesses (like gauge numbers) for sheet products.
I should also point out that Pipingdesign.com has a lot of references to this kind of information, which is also posted on innumerable less comprehensive web sites in dozens of languages.. If you're going to become a competent designer, you really need to learn how to use reference material.
