I don't know all the gory details, but I think it might have to do with "fair use". For example, there is a duty on the purchase of blank cassettes/CD and DVD-recordables etc. to compensate artists. I'm actually unaware of any books that are not available here - I assume that would be all over the Canuckian blogs if it were so.

This doesn't mean that I'll be uploading and sharing copyrighted material with my few closest 100,000 friends though.
