No, I disagree. Both are not correct.

Any design/P&ID that proposes that the supply/suction piping be smaller than the pump inlet has an idiot process person/CAD-trained person in an authority position.

Not to be insensitive, but, hey, that is one of the basics and a fundamental concept in piping design.

Does gas/vapour/air typically collect at low points in a piping system?
