Duuuh
what a surprise; an American link!
And it gives me a virus.
As I live in the 2.5rd world, jcluf may expect a hostile reaction. And by the way, I think the tables have been turned for quite some time now, going by national deficit figures.
I tend to find most big ideas result from a confluence of other ideas whose time has arrived.
No point in giving the credit to DARPA; may as well give it to Babbage, or perhaps the inventor of the bagpipes. No, donât do that; the bagpipe guy does not deserve credit.
So in your face, you non-native North American. I will be more curteous when to learn the rules and the (rapidly disappearing)spirit of cricket. Until then; why you little..............!
Cheers
Steve

My guess is that this depends on how the model of competition/capitalism
is eventually interpreted and implemented in those places of the world.
A few posts ago I was somewhat chastised onlist for saying that we have the Americans to thank for the internet. Yes, Sir TB-L is a founder, but
the concept wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the original DARPA effort. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look it up. Or just see this URL: http://www.isoc.org/internet/history/brief.shtml
And, yes, it was the Americans that got it going and provided the infrastructure for what we have today. I suppose they could have just kept it to themselves for their own advantage, but they didn't. The internet has changed the world and will continue to do so.
I now await flamage from people that disagree with me and over-exuberant
"boo-yeah, IN-YOUR-FACE!" comments from the rah-rah, Homer Simpson crowd.
Paul
