two things which may be of use:

On large jobs it is sometimes worth looking at setting up a local extrusion plant if plastics are an option. Our original freight cost estimates were enormous. I dug into it a bit and found out that the silly buggers were pricing for containerizing the pipe. This means less than 12m section length and about a 2.2 X 2.2m section envelope. By going to "break bulk" (i.e. loose) cargo our shipping costs were reduced to less than 30% of the original estimates. This eliminated the need for on-site extrusion or steel spiral weld fabrication facilities.
