API-5D (Table 5.1) gives the minimum shell test
pressure for valves as 1.5% of rated MAOP. Example:
ANSI Class 150, the min. shell test pressure is 425
psi.
During hydro test of long section of a piping system including valves, we state that the mini. test pressure is 425 psi. Since we cannot maintain the exact pressure, we typically use a range of test pressure, i.e. 425-475 psig, Assuming 100% Yield of pipe is >500 psig.
