Dear Friends
As far as I am concerned and with the limitted experience that I have , use of
spiral seam welded pipes is rare in the petrochemical industries specially here
in Iran, where I work.In the enormous and numerous petrochemical plants exist
here , one can not find this kind of pipe for any service , maybe due to the
nature of the weld which is a weakness by itself. The less weld in the piping
system the less defect would be there.
This kind of pipe is defined in API 5L and is a standard one and is widely used
for long runs of pipes to carry gas between the cities and countries even.
Recently we have dared to use this pipe in our ongoing projects for cooling
water service while, as I said , this has not been used in other old existing
plants in the country.
I would like to know your experience and idea about this and what do you think
about the advantages and disadvantages of this kind of pipe in comparison with
other welded type pipes regardless of joint efficiency and cost.Have you had any
experience of utilizing this kind of pipe for any process service?
Your collaboration would be appreciated.
Cheers
Reza
PS:Hope that my question would not look like a homework to be replied by torrents of ironic delicate technical answers.
