RE: Corrugated and fin tubes

Hi Ganga,

Corrugated tube has many spiral projections on the inner and outer surface of the tube. The coefficient for overall heat transfer has been remarkably improved because of the turbulent flow effect on the inner surface and outer surface of the tube caused by the corrugation, in comparison with that for smooth tubes.

The inside heat transfer coefficient and the overall heat transfer coefficient have been improved by more than two times and more than 1.5 times respectively, in comparison to smooth tubes.

Regards,

Erik

Dear Ganga,
I am not a person of the HEAT EXCHANGER business; still, from what I had gathered, the difference lies in the matter that corrugated tube is the one made out of corrugated sheets. It increases the surface area and hence the heat transfer rate. By the logic of construction, it cannot be used for high pressures. Finned tube utilizes the principle of embedding the fins integrally with the exterior of the tube, thus establishing good conduction enhanced with increased surface area. There is no limit of applicability of pressure. It solely depends on the core tube. Hope this clarifies as a first round info. For details ask the specialists.
Regards.
