May be we are exaggerating a simple question posted by one of our
members. I do not think somebody is going to design the whole piping
system for cryogenics with our replies. Everybody understands that
cryogenics are different than hot piping in all respects materials,
insulations, supports, stress analysis, pipe routing etc. what we are
trying to do is just providing information's in bits and pieces.

Subject: [PipingDesign] Re: Flattening limits for pipes
Somehow this thread is bothering me and allow me to limit my reply
to the subject on cryogenics.
- We need experts. Cryogenics, especially combustible medium, such
as ethylene, oxygen, hydrogen, etc, needs non-spark materials. Not
all SS304s are suitable for this. What about aluminum? Polyurethane
may not be right as well, have we looked in cellular glass (medium
being combustible)? Are flanged connections permissible? This is the
job of the experts.
This information, as Tanmoy wrote and I agree with him on this, can
be more available to companies dealing with cryogenics as part of
their standard procedure. Even with the vast availability of
information in the internet, I find it difficult to get the right
info.
Just the way it is, our industry may be going down the tube (pun
intended) not due to lack of experts, but by companies trying to
save money by giving the burden to newbies without proper guidance.
(God, Allah, Yahweh, as the case maybe, save us.)
- Is it the moderators job to police what we write in this
discussion group? Or are we responsible for the info that we give?
And Pete, you're right about some of the type of questions in this
forum? But you see, they have nowhere to go. Bottomline: Who should
be responsible, the giver or the receiver? When ever infomation are
handed in or out, review them.
