Not to mention that if you want to bid on larger jobs you often have to own multiple licenses for various expensive software packages along with the IT people to support them (plus people skilled in the operation of said software, of course).
The available people (designers/layout, not so much for engineers) for any given project is very often limited by what type of software they are accustomed to, not their abilities as designers.
The piping design world needs interoperability between programs so that data can be exchanged regardless of the use of computers.
