COADE and Bentley have already started to support the site (and by extension, this list) via advertising. It's not too much, but I have to welcome major companies like this getting involved in propping up technical discussion such as we have here.
Charging for access will not work, period. The site has to exist based on targetted advertising much as a magazine does. Well, that is until I figure out a way to "monetize" it. This means that the site and this list will not be turned into a blinky, flashy place with no content.
I've been running the site for quite a few years now and I know the come-ons from the scammers that want to afilliate with it based on its high Google rank.
Donations are always welcome, I just don't feel comfortable asking.
