Re: Reinforcement Pad Weep hole

It would appear that the hole performs at least three functions:

First, to ensure the hydro test witness applies to the whole shell.

Second, to prevent external pressurization in the pad area.

Third, to promote pointless but interesting discussion over the original intention.

Personnally, I vote for point 1 alone. If point 2 was truly valid, then some code pressure/temperature boundaries would be expected and the practice of threading the holes appears dangerous as it is inviting a plug.

I did not set out to answer this posting; was just looking for some slander from Geoff Stone that needed putting right. However on the PipingDesign/Yahoo website I saw an ad stating:

The ad appears to refer to a mechanical engineering degree.

$199 for a degree! Now why did I spend 7 years at two universities; neither of which, as far as I recall, were offering a money-back guarantee? Silly old me. If this ad was around in my formative years, I could have saved thousands.
