RE: Preliminary Nozzle Loads

Chris -

Thanks for describing some of your approaches and experiences. Yes, occasional loads adds more consideration. I am thinking that using a WRC program to generate some allowable loads for vessels in the range of the project scope may be the best approach for now. But I'm going to search for the reference made by John Luf too.

Al -

Thank you, it looks like the HEI standards on Feedwater Heaters and Power Plant HX may be helpful.

HEI has a set of allowables but they cover only 4 of 6 Forces and Moments. it is very difficult to create a comprehensive dataset for such a diverse array
of possibilities (size, rating, design conditions, boundary conditions (ie the wall thickness
and rigidity of the attachment). the problem is the assumptions inherent in such cookie cutter
black box design need to be understood and they arent.

Many companies have such criteria, but predictably they are all over the map and this alone highlights the issues.
Such an approach is fine if the originator or creator understands the assumptions and limitations... this gets misused however.

Hmmm....

There were a set of proposed limits published circa 50's by Messrs' Markl and Rossheim.... if I can find them I'll post them.....
