Doable. But normally the root pass is NDE using PT (if the surf is not too hot)following visual - same goes with the hot and closing weld on the outside. In all the Hot Tap i have witness, the welding have the same quality as those done in the workshop. Note that a qualified welder using a qualified weld procedure is doin the hot work assisted of course by a competent/experienced pipe fitter under the watch by a qualified inspector.

This type of activity assumed a certain amount of risk - just like all of the hot work performed at an operating facility handling hazardous chemical or with a very high pressure/temp. The piping work is not only about complying with the rules of B31 or the API 570 but also ensuring that the applicable OSHA PSM requirement are followed. Received on Sat Dec 17 23:42:00 2005
