List Archives from mid-1999 to early-2006

Alex T. (a list member since 2004) has grabbed 10,000+ messages sent to this list since 1999. This might be of interest to newer members or those that want to go back in time.

The archive does not contain the email addresses (they are X-ed out for privacy) of the senders and it includes full email headers.

The zipped file is about 4MB to download and when extracted will occupy about 37MB of space on your computer.

Here are Alex's instructions for what to do if you want to use the archive locally (anyone that has tried to use the online Yahoogroups' search function will appreciate this):

Since the file containing the message archive is quite big (37.3MB), I compressed it using 7-ZIP ( an open source file archiver: http://www.7-zip.org/ ). Sorry for not using a popular format, but the size of a ZIP file would have been twice as much, while the RAR format is proprietary and I prefer using open source software, where possible. If your file archiver can't decompresss it, you can always download 7-ZIP (it's pretty small in size, anyway). The compressed file size is 4,137,631 bytes.

I noticed that you use Thunderbird. In order to browse the archive, after decompressing the file, close TB, go to TB's profile folder and copy/move the uncompressed file to a subfolder that also contains other mbox files, e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\Mail\<POP server name/Local Folders>\

I followed these instructions carefully and it works great. *Using Mozilla Thunderbird is strongly recommended - this will not work with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express*
