Truth to tell, part of it's the Macintosh imperative. You get the most out of what you have. ANother part is the fact that Macs, by Apple fiat, have some pretty strict rules for developers, and the reward for following the rules is backwards compatibility. I can run software on my curent machine, that I once ran on my Mac plus 17 years ago. I do that regularly. When you've had some pretty good software around you get to know a lot more about it that if you're changing programs every year or two when MS decides to rename its operating system.
