This is one of the emails I got while I was in transition (I.E.,
addressed to info@pipingdesign.com and similar). Now I'm going through
them all.
I think we've discussed this before, but the question is well-asked and probably deserves an answer just because of the framing of the query and the politeness.
Well done, Tertius.

Dear Sir / Madam
I am a student in South Africa currently studying to obtain my drafting diploma through Professional Drafting Services. This diploma involves disciplines like: Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Piping & Architectural drafting.
I am currently busy with the piping module and have come to a question, which I cannot seem to get the answer in books or the Internet. Would you please be so kind as to take the time to search in your industry and experience to maybe be able to help me in this question.
The question is based on flanged connections and is about the holes for the bolts. Why are holes on a flange never positioned on the vertical centerline?
I have included a PDF drawing to assist you in verifying the understanding of this question.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to peruse this email.
Regards
