thanks Bruce....

NFPA 497 is the "Recommended Practice for the Classification of Flammable Liquids, Gases, or Vapors and of Hazardous (Classified) Locations for Electrical Installations in Chemical Process Areas" (Whew!) But I get your point....NFPA 497 describes the "area"....but not the equipment requirements for use in the "area". I'll hunt down the NEC and check out the sections you are suggesting....
