Identical numbers? You just did a lot of work for nothing.
In my experience, equipment, valves, etc. are assigned unique numbers. The
reason for this is
that given a valve number for example, one would know exactly where this valve
is located. This
method of identification would help you tremendously during installation and
trouble shooting.
Sure it takes time to tag your P&IDs. It also takes time to physically tag the
valves. But if you
have the resources (especially if you are a Design & Build Contractor), the
return would
greatly offset the cost.

No sequential numbering. They will have the identical numbers underneath them.
