Hi Michael,

Well, for any career it is always good to find a mentor where you work. Whether it be your boss or some other more senior person to share their experiences with you.

It is important to learn all of the technical aspects of pipe, drawing P&IDs and general arrangements, and design or pipe systems. But it is equally as important to learn the company and understand the culture of the people you work with if you want to move ahead.

Collaboration and keeping projects moving forward is the name of the game in the corporate engineering world.

The length of time is all about how much time and effort you put into learning and applying yourself in the company. But I would expect to be in that position for at least a year or two. But it can vary from company to company. Just keep showing that you are interested to grow and hungry for opportunity.

Congratulations and have fun! :)

Sami
