I've been meaning to write something like this for some time, so here
goes. The advantage of splitting up "checking" into well-defined,
project schedule-related tasks is that less-experienced people can
perform some of these things during downtime while learning. One example
might be that a senior checker should probably not waste time verifying
if reference drawings are properly referred-to or if each deliverable
has the proper contract or drawing number.
Most of the below relates to 3D projects, but much if it is useful for 2D work as well. I've also probably made some mistrakes/failed to consider some things, this was just a quick typing exercise straight from my brain and memory (both of which have been known to be sometimes faulty in the past).
And this is just a first shot, so feel free to add, ask, comment, clarify, append, whatever.
