This presupposes that designers know that they can change details of suppliers' offerings.
If suppliers' proposed designs do not fit your layout, you do *not* change plot plans or equipment layouts to suit suppliers standard offerings.
There are some unique situations where changes absolutely cannot be made, but in most cases the supplier will resist changes simply because it complicates his manufacturing process/established routines.
If you are building a multi-hundred-million dollar facility you have sway over suppliers. Don't let suppliers dictate poor layouts. That being said, it's never an all-or-nothing situation. It's teamwork.
