check B31.3 - 2004 creep weld strength reduction factor w... welds in high
temperature usage even with a creep resistant base metal may lose strength due
to the properties of the filler metal (lack of creep resistance). So from that
standpoint you may be better off with no filler.
" What is the production welding process that does not require a filler
metal. Why is such a welding process required?" Frictio ERW etc. there are
various methods of joining metal without filler. They all are very automated
and high tech in nature (The new Airbus uses friction and electron beam to join
the aluminum panels together, no rivets = less weight)
"The supplier is offering the material that uses a filler material. From the
text of the ASTM std. the requirement of not using a filler material is not
an optional one. Will the offered material qualify under the specification?"
NOPE

My net trawling did not yield an answer, that is why I am posting the question here.
The ASTM specification requires the subject pipe to be produced by an automatic welding process that do not use a filler metal. What is the production welding process that does not require a filler metal. Why is such a welding process required?
