For methane (natural gas), the expansion factor is 600 to 1, under standard conditions; it is well documented. It varies with the element or blend. It will take too much effot to explain the "relation", which is the same for the calculation, especially when I have no idea of your background or experience (it is always both beneficial and good etiquet to introduce oneself). Some understanding of thermodynamics and physical chemistry is needed.
