Ask your customer, not the list. If your customer specified zinc plating they probably have a good reason to do so. Don't forget you're eventually going to have to explain the deviation from their spec, and you're going to look awfully pathetic if all you can say is that you heard it on the Internet from someone you never met, whose qualifications you never checked. You should also get back to your vendor and and find out why they want to use epoxy. If the only reason they can give is that they can't supply zinc plating, thank them nicely and find someone else to supply the gaskets.
