Hi Girish Marsand

It would appear anyone happy with zinc plating isnt too worried about heavy duty corrosion, especially since the outer and inners have the same spec. Epoxy is good if it is made to stick to the substrate, and the chances of pinholing are low, but it massively depends on whats around in terms of corrosives. This is normally for your materials spec engineer to decide.Or are you he?

Personally I would have bitten the bullet and gone for 316L outers and inners. Whats good for the gasket should be good for the carriers. Thats probably why I'm not rich and famous.

By the way I would lose the disclaimer off the bottom of your emails. Its not a good look for your company.

Cheers

Steve

On one of our gas pipeline projects, the piping spec mentions followingrequirements for spiral wound gaskets: "For general hydrocarbon services, gaskets shall have passivated zincplated carbon steel outer and inner rings and 316L stainless steelspiral windings with non-asbestos filler material such as graphite orgraphite impregnated Teflon."One vendor has come back with his proposal to use Epoxy coating insteadof Zinc plating. Those having knowledge on this subject please adviseregarding this change proposal. Does Zinc plating cause any problemsduring service life? Can epoxy coating last for long term and is it effective?Regards,Girish MasandPerth, WA, Australia*** WORLEYPARSONS GROUP NOTICE ***"This email is confidential.
