Thanks, John--I over-generalized. The ASME also has some in-service inspection codes, which I have never used, but but I daresay they're concerned with practicably maintaining the safety margins of new equipment. The National Board also maintains repair codes.

It must have been a helluva blown gasket if the flange needs repair. Probably fair to add that the raised face height doesn't actually enter into the ASME Code stress calculation--you can probably do anything you want with it, provided the ring thickness dimension (T, I think) isn't reduced.
