This question has been asked frequently. You can check the archives. The best answer is to look into the various resources you must have available to do piping design. If you have to ask this most basic question, you really ought to talk with a more senior person in your company. PLEASE obtain a copy of Technical Paper 410, Flow of Fluids, by Crane Co. (Joliet, Illinois, USA). It is a very inexpensive resource. Also, do some work looking into internet resources, including this webpage.

In general, for economical transfer of liquid, flow velocity is in the range of 4-8 feet/sec (normally not to exceed 2 to 12 feet/sec). for fuel gases, 130-170 fps, for saturated steam, 200 fps.

Can you help me out in calculation of pipe sizing I need to know the method or formula for calculation the pipe diameter required for the given flow rate, fluid density, its viscocity, its temperature, pressure required and its pressure drop.

Can u please help me out in this calculation.It wil be of great help
