Hot Tap & Line Stop

AJ - From what you describe you are repairing a leaking 42" block valve, or installing a new block valve? What are your service conditions / Ambient conditions? How much will $$$ come into play as far as additional costs on your project? When does your project need to be completed? A mechanical tee is a viable option - depending on present line integrity, conditions, stresses , etc. Clamp ON type mechanical tees will not take much pipe out of round, Grout On Mechanical Tees will - in relation to expense - the least expensive mechanical tees are the welded - clamp on type, then follows the forged clamp on type, the most expensive are the Grout on type. I would guess that you will get pricing from $350,000 USD - over $1,000,000 for each mechanical fitting (+shipping / installation). All Quality Mechanical Hot Tap Fittings when properly installed should have a service life of 20 years min. & are designed to resist both process & ambient conditions. I am presently working on a mechanical tee hot tap project with a twist -the client requires a "double block & bleed" isolation minimum.
p.s. the word "stopple" is used by some manufactures in relation to their products - Line Stop is the real terminology I hope this is helpful to you -

RE: [PipingDesign] Steam Sample coolers

Hi!

Looking for an advise based upon your personal experience and sound references. We are planning to hot tap and Hot & Stopple (One Location Hot tap to install a jump-over line and down stream of this Hot tap, put a stopple for the installation in line isolation valve). The run pipe is 42 inch and the Hot tap will be 18 inch. Now the question is as follows; - Due to lack of confidence on the quality of welders we have almost finalized the Mechanical Tee to avoid either burn through or hydrogen cracking.

How many of you guys will approve mechanical tee, in place of welding tee? What are credibility and Integrity issues related to mechanical tee as compared to welding tee?

Regards

Dear all,
Anybody has come across "steam sample coolers" ? I would like to know manufacturers list of detail drawing, if available. It is a closed system, purpose is collecting samples of high pressure steam condensate.

Awaiting your expert comments.
