This is one instance where, if one specifies butt welding fittings to ASME B16.9, where in the standard under tolerance is 12.5 %. If the mating pipes are made from plates with lesser under tolerance and If fittings schedules are specified the same as pipe wall, can result in a thinner fitting, than the minimum selected thickness.
