STACKING HEIGHT OF GAS PIPE

In storing line pipes prior to use for construction, Why is it necessary to limit the height of a stack in terms of number of the stacking pipe and what parameter(s) of the pipe affect the stacking height.

Can anybody help me with this and refence(s) that I read for the storing of 14" gas pipeline.
