Hello.
As far as mill tolerance is concern it is specified in ASTM material standard. As u mention mill tolerance of 12.5% ( it is not for ASME B31.3) is for ASTM A53 or ASTM A106 as specified in para 12.3 of ASTM A53 for ASTM A53 pipe and para 16.3 of ASTM A106 for ASTM A106 pipe. SImilarly for ASTM 312 you can find mill tolerance in table 3. therefore based on the refrences u can say its not mandatory reuirment of ASME B31.3 but its requirment of ASTM Material to be used for piping. Similarly if you are gona use A106 or A312 in B31.4 or B31.8 u have to follow the mill tolerance mention in the ASMT standard. also mill tolerance is mandatory requirment of B31.3 but not 12.5% is the requirment.ay be Vary from material to material.

Subject: [PipingDesign] mill tolerance for pipes by ASME B
31.8/ B31.4
Hi every one,
The ASME Code B 31.3 has mentioned specifically on the addition of mill tolerance of 12.5% in its pipe wall thickness. But is this mill tolerance mandatory for wall thickness of process pipes following B31.4 and B31.8 Codes.
Thanks&Regards
