A J:
Assuming that your procedure is written by a knowledgeable person, or team, then there must be a reason. Perhaps there is a measurement that is required to verify some condition that will not provide a proper response if there is the added current on the pipe. Perhaps there is even a desire to measure the potential between the pipe and ground without the ICCP to get a baseline at the time of commissioning, that might aid in future checks of a preventive or predictive maintenance (PM) program. Commissioning should not require a very long time, so there should be no damage to the line from having the ICCP off for a few days. Even if there is, then your service is a very challenging one anyway, and a good PM program is paramount.

[PipingDesign] ICCP of the Hydrocarbon Line
Gents we are about to commission C4+ (hydrocarbon) pipeline. This line is protected by ICCP. The commissioning procedure says that we have to either switch off or disconnect ICCP (impressed current cathodic protection) before commissioning. After the line is commissioned we again switch on the ICCP system.
Different people have different views on this. Some say that it is mandatory and some say they never heard of this and it is not required at all. What the group says about this?
