It depends on the liquid:if it contains solids, top exit can result in solids accumuation in the header, and alternative means of solids removal must be arranged. If it contains gas bubbles, then top exit can help stop the header filling with gas which may require a gas bleed to be fitted. I normally prefer top takeoff.
