Best known article ive read on this subject is the one published by SwRI - Chapter VI. . The article is great (but very theoritical) and the vibration criteria is excellent.However we find that the severity chart shown on Fig. 6-1 of limited use/application and the technique to control it too general.

Recently, several articles have been published in Hydrocarbon Processing magazine about this subject (again from the guys at SwRI). The most practical is the article prepared by K. T Troung from Ultragen Group ( issue of June 2000). This guy Troung has reduced the complex equation in evaluating the piping dynamic stresses to just 18 comprehensible equation. Wow. The beauty of Troung method is that you can now use the vibration readings (frequnecy and velocity) together with the pipe stress analysis software( we're using both algor and coade caesar II) to figure out if the stresses is still below the code allowables or not.minus the mambo jumbo.

May i ask the other piping engineer the methods/tehcnique they use to evaluate and control piping vibration.
