One thing about threaded connections--I once ran into a situation where the Code-specified engagement couldn't be met because of an allowance mismatch in the female thread. If I recollect the specified engagement was seven threads and we could only get six, except by using a cheater on the wrench and a helluva lot of force. We checked the threads with a gauge and they were OK, just a little tight on the coupling. The joint also didn't leak. As luck would have it the UL inspector on the job insisted that the ASME specification be met and my client ended up chasing the threads with a slightly oversize tap.
