I know every now and then we get into a chilled water discussion
on the
steam list so please indulge me!
We are presently involved in a large chilled water project and
have been
asked to review Victaulic or Mechanical grooved pipe couplings as
a suitable
alternative.
We traditionally use all welded steel construction for the buried
distribution system or even in-plant chilled water piping.
Therefore, my knowledge regarding Victaulic is extremely limited
to smaller
commercial building HVAC design from a former life.
Has anyone on the List had any good or bad/horror experiences with
this
product with chilled water pipe couplings that they are willing to
share?
Any comments on use of grooved pipe for valves in lieu of flanges?
Any comments regarding its reaction to water hammer as compared to
steel.
Our system will eventually be around 20,000 tons.
We have about 2 miles of piping trench at 140 psi supply and close
to 90
psid on the distribution pumps.
Diameters range from 30" to 12" pipes with water velocities at
about 11 feet
per second.
