Hi Forum Members

Now that the topic of micro and macro organisms have crept into the discussion, does anyone out there use an onsite chlorine or chlorine dioxide generator for disinfection of sea water.

agreed. normally in a sea water colling system a hypochlorite generation system is installed plus u have a regular dosing of Nalco solution to take care of the mussels

I dont see much use of sea water in an industrial plant or marine environment except for cooling (unless of course youure in the bussiness of prducing water via reverse osmosis). If use in cooling system then either its of once-through or open recirc system. Both will require huge volume of water and normally the pressure at the pump disch is around 600 kpa (seems enough since you'll expect about 200 kpa for the delta p around the exchanger and piping).

Under this condition the mortar lined CS piping or ABS or GRP will be a sutiable choice of material. However youve mentioned a pressure of 1000 psi or about 7000 kpa - a value that is quite very high. This value will knock off a lot of material normally employed in sea water application (onshore) . id sure would like to know the material you have finally selected.
