Dear Ravi,
These vaves are meant for dissipating the heat of
friction generated by the churning of the liquid
inside the pump between the impeller and the casing in
the shut off conditions, when there is no demand of
the product in the system. These are very expensive.
The manufactures recommend the installation.
Generally, it is best kept in the horizontal run.
(better not on the vertical discharge nozzle, as it is
very heavy, it can impart a lot of load on the pump
nozzle). The prefferred installation has to be well
understood by the vendor. Generally the return is fed
to the suction vessel. A location proximate to the
vessel will be desirable.
Good luck!!!
