Weld-Tech has comeup with a unique a flange leveler that has a springsteel mounts to secure the bolts and stay in center of bolt holes. Fit 16-45 mm bolt holes. Weld-Tech has website.

Need to cold cut pipe on-site. Unitec has develop a portable hacksaw that can cold cut a pipe up to 24 inch. Great for hard to reached places/confined space – beats the Wachs machine that ive been used to. Interested, checkout the CSUnitec.com

Has anybody tried the mechanicalengineeringhelp.com website? Created by Tony Sofronas, PhD and head honcho at ExxonMobil engineering, Some good stuff in piping, piping vibration, gasket and bolting - Technical Q&A section. In one of article that was published , Tony provided some answer to one of the most often ask question in maintenance – If some of the threads are damaged, will the stud trip out?

Dual laminate piping. Get a nasty service environment like HF acid or a high purity application like deionized water piping. Do your maintenance department a favor,in your next project or upgrade you may like to consider dual laminate as an alternative material. Its nothing more but piping where the inner liner (thermoplastic) is thermoformed and then an outer FRP layer is bonded to the inner layer.

Furmanite ( leak sealing and Trevi-Test fame) has come out with a new product to repair pipeworks using composite technology. It's a mix of carbon fiber (yep same material found in stealth fighter) and epoxy resin. Claiming 10X as strong and 2X as stiff as steel. Shell, BP and Texaco has used them to restore a pressure containment equipment. Anyone in this group tried `em?

Way back in 1999 there was a product that won the Valeer Award in scanning technology – great way to document piping and equipment asbuilt.  Its Cyrax 3-D laser scanning and modeling system. After the good review it receives - Never heard of them again.

Doing some heat tracing and is need of a reference too?. Checkout Chromalox and download their Heat Trace System Design Guide or contact the company for the free CD-ROM guide.

The 907 mile Afghan pipeline from the fields of Turkmenistan across Afghan field to Pakistan is estimated to cost around $2 billion. There's also a new project in the pipeline (pun intended) probably start soon this year and completed by 2005 – the $2.5 billion crude oil pipeline linking Angarsk field in Russia to Daqing oil field in China. Its about 1,400 km long.
But the mother of all pipeline probably belongs to China. The PetroChina West to East 40 inch pipeline may be the longest natural gas pipeline in the world - about 4000 km long from Kuga to Shanghai with stops at Hangtzou and Hefie. For more pipeline news, check out Universal Ensco Inc website UEI-Houston.com.
