flow calculation in case of pipeline rupture

Dear friends,

Suppose I have a pipe containing gas at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. (Pl. note that there is no feeding source to the pipe). If a hole is made in the gas pipeline, then how to calculate the flow rate (as a function of time), the total time that would be taken to become the pressure in the pipe equal to atmospheric pressure?

Is there any method or formula for this?

Following things can be assumed,

Pressure in the pipe= 4 barg

Hole size=1”

Diameter of the pipe= 4”NB

Length of the pipe= 500m

SG of gas (w.r.t. air) = 0.6

Please guide me.

Regards & thanks in advance.

Prakash
