PC based Plant Design software

Hi Nitin,

I would stay away from any Bentley Products right now - they had their own PlantSpace products and then went out and acquired the Rebis Plant Design products. Now there are 2 competing products within the same company. The market is not big enough for Bentley to support them both so choosing either right now is a gamble in my mind.

You should really look at your needs - there is a direct correlation between cost and features/capabilities. The really high end products like PDS & PDMS cost more for a reason - same goes for the really low end products - in this business my experience has been that you get what you pay for.

If you need MicroStation compatibility you might want to look at Plant4D - the best way to describe it is to say that even us hardened PDS guys go "WOW" when we see the "DEMO".

It is very modern and supports both AutoCAD & MicroStation. They are initially very competitive with their pricing and may give you a good deal to get you started.

One thing to remember - whichever software you choose the first job is a learning experience, so don't be disappointed, just keep plugging away and invest in training.

Hi Friends,

I am currently evaluating using some PC based Plant Design software for my
company.

Are there any good PC based 3-D Plant design softwares available. PDS is too
big / expensive for our line of work. I have evaluated AutoPlant but as it
is AutoCAD based and most of our customers use PDS is not a good fit for us.

Has anyone used OMNI or PlantSPACE ?

Thanks for all your help.

Regards,

Nitin Mahajan, P.E.
