Gents:

i know this might be too simplistic, but here's how we do it...

  1. in the conceptual estimating stage we simply use an estimate of $20 per inch per foot. in other words, for a 1" line, it costs $20 per foot to purchase materials and install. for a 2" line, it costs $40 per foot. we use this for carbon steel pipe in the sizes 1" thru 18".
  2. in the refined estimating stage, we develop isometric drawings and perform a take-off. the take-off we send to the pipe supply house and let them add up the costs. we walk the job with our piping foreman and he provides the labor estimate.
