I sympathize with the "come on Lakshmi, give us the answer, what happened to the flange!" crowd. I included myself in it until just a few moments ago. Then I had a thought. My assumption (and perhaps that of most of the rest of us) was that Lakshmi's question "Can anyone tell me what happened to this flange?" was a challenge, a test of sorts. He had a problem, investigated, figured it out, then decided to pass along his newfound knowledge to this discussion group. Perhaps that assumption was incorrect. Perhaps Lakshmi doesn't know what happened and is asking the group if we can help him figure it out. Just a theory...
Of course, there is one person who can put an end to our endless speculation....
By the way, here's a link to a good dwg. of a lens ring flange/gasket set. I've never seen one in the states, but it looks like it conforms to DIN 2696

I'm not counting out Lakshmi yet. I tend to be an optimist, otherwise I would not have wasted thousands of dollars and hours running this site to the point where I am suffering financially. But then again, the road to success is littered with the bones of those with good intentions.
Your comment reminded me of another reply made on this list when I posted a link about engineering jobs going overseas. It went something like: "You are our mentors, we look up to you." Check the archives if you want, I never delete anything.
One thing that bothers me about H1B visas and the like is that "we" are not allowed to go to India to work.
